A group of ten students from ‘Hartcliffe Engineering Community College’ aged between 14 and 16, tutored by Kate Semple, have created a stone carved Totem Pole, representing ‘hunky punks’ influenced by modern day comic characters. Each twelve inch block of Bath Stone depicts two faces on either side and stands eleven feet high. |

The Students enjoyed a taste of Rural Life…. a visit to Green Farm included seeing the cows being milked, the calves and the Potato Shed, the Machinery Shed and an opportunity to climb on Tractors under the watchful eye of Stephen Britten. The students played soft ball, football, boules and had a go at emulating Johnny Wilkinson – kicking a rugby ball over a rugby goal post. The pond teaming with wildlife and Fran’s Jack Russell puppies created a calm during the hectic 6 days. |

They also visited the viewing point at ‘Foster Yeoman Quarry’ where the Quarry Manager explained the geological makeup of the area and the general workings of the Quarry. |

As a result of the six day project one young student has shown an interest in becoming a stone mason and a visit to ‘Wells Cathedral Stone Masons Yard’ has been arranged. Another student has made the choice to work on a farm. |

Georgina Morgan – Teaching Support and Liaison Officer for Students and Families at Hartcliffe College said “Shute Farm Studio gave these students an experience that has without a doubt socially improved their outlook, offering them an insight into a future that, in all probability, did not exist before; they all can't wait to come again”. |

The stone Totem Pole was installed in Hartcliffe Community Park, Bristol on June 6th. |
