return to Shute Farm Studio |

Vitalise returned
to Shute Farm Studio for the second
time this year to complete a course
in Hand Built Ceramics tutored
by Nick Inns. |

Jack who
has already had experience of
sculpting at Shute Farm Studio
with Vitalise spent the weekend
sculpting a fine clay head while
the rest of the group learnt
techniques of ‘slabbing’
and ‘coiling’ clay
to make a large cheese plate
and fruit bowl. The class formed
patterns on the underside of
their bowls and Nick applied
over the surface a slip to which
students applied scraffito of
their own designs and patterns.

The group
also enjoyed a session throwing
a pot on the wheel. Nick and
those working with him showed
patience and understanding and
everyone at the end of the course
felt that had made a very special
piece of pottery. |

There was
a farm visit at milking time
at the end of the course where
the group where able to stroke
some of the young calves an
some of the cows.
An enjoyable visit was had
by all.
